In June 1986, three club members decided to join the hardy few dedicated to skiing on midsummer day. However, instead of heading for the usual snow patch in the Ciste Mairead, we chose to look a bit further afield. Little did we know as we headed for the summit of Cairngorm via the chairlift that we were heading for one of the most amazing days of our mountaineering careers. Continuous snow (although quite narrow in places) across the whole plateau leading up to the summit of Ben Macdui and the day finished off by a moonlight descent from the summit to our bivvy.
